The Baru nut tree is native to the Cerrado region of Brazil.  The nuts are commonly used in pé-de-moleque, a Brazilian version of peanut brittle.  The wood is very strong and good for building - which has contributed to its being close to extinction. (info from slowfoodfoundation.com)   BACK
